ARTIST STATEMENT
My work is about my life and its evolution. The majority of my life has been spent trying to find where I fit in. It can be chaotic and challenging looking for your place to land. I’ve had a multitude of jobs in various fields, never staying too long in one place. In fact, I’ve had so many jobs that it would be impossible to make a “real” resume because it’s doubtful I could remember them all. Even my art pursuits have been varied. From pastel painting to acrylics, watercolors, inks, encaustics, printmaking, metalsmith and jewelry design, photography, kiln formed glass, fashion design and sewing, surface design with thickened dyes, multi media collage and most recently digital design.
The advantage of this kind of life, I think, has made me a more diversified person not only in my skills but the way I see things. I’ve always been drawn to objects with texture, rust, grunge, graffiti. Fascinated with the complexity of all the layers, curious to see and know what’s underneath.
Recently, I’ve discovered it’s because those layers represent me. So much going on inside and beneath the surface. A little crazy, with a colorful mix of glam, retro, punk and goth. Bold colorful and fun. It’s about finding the beauty and good in imperfection.
At this stage in my life I now embrace my place.
Why Fit In? Stand Out!
You will often find that phrase hidden in my work.
